Worthington — Thomas Worthington head football coach Michael Picetti announced Sunday evening that he is stepping down after five seasons with the Cardinals.
In a statement on X, Picetti cited health concerns and the need to prioritize his family as reasons for his decision. He revealed he missed the final five games of the season due to health issues and acknowledged the personal sacrifices he had made during his tenure.
During his five seasons at Thomas Worthington, Coach Michael Picetti revitalized the Cardinals football program. He guided the team to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2021 to 2023 and achieved back-to-back winning seasons— a feat the program hadn’t seen in over 25 years.
Beyond the wins, Picetti’s leadership brought numerous achievements both on and off the field. He leaves the program with a 15-31 record over five seasons, excluding the final five games of the 2024 season, which he missed due to health reasons.
In his letter, Picetti expressed gratitude to the school district and the Thomas Worthington community for the opportunity to lead the program. He also shared his belief that the program is in a stronger position now than when he took over in 2020. You can read his full announcement below.
