Hilliard — For Hilliard Davidson quarterback Johnny DiBlasio, this season was personal. Entering his senior year with a chip on his shoulder, DiBlasio was determined to elevate Davidson back to the standard he knew it could reach.
“We weren’t very good my sophomore and junior years, and we lost early in the playoffs both seasons,” DiBlasio said. “That wasn’t acceptable to me, knowing what Davidson is supposed to do year in and year out.”
DiBlasio committed himself to the grind—hitting the weights, studying film, and sharpening his game. For him, it wasn’t just about personal growth; it was about elevating the entire program.
The hard work paid dividends, as DiBlasio went on to break Davidson’s single season and career passing records as a senior. He also led them to the regional semifinals.

“It’s a pretty cool feeling to know I have a spot in the record books, alongside all the great tradition that comes with Davidson football,” DiBlasio said. “Leaving a legacy is important to me, and it’s definitely special to hold those records—for now.”
Now, the record-setting quarterback is headed to Valparaiso, making it official with his signing on Wednesday. After leaving his mark at Hilliard Davidson, DiBlasio is embracing a fresh start with a new coaching staff and a new opportunity.
“Valparaiso is known for its high academics, and everything felt like the perfect fit for me,” DiBlasio said. “A brand-new coaching staff and a family atmosphere were also two huge factors in my decision.”
As DiBlasio embarks on a new journey, he carries with him deep gratitude for everything he leaves behind at Davidson.

“From every coach, to all my offensive linemen, to all the skill guys, and to the scout team players, they’ve all played a significant role in helping me achieve what I have so far,” DiBlasio reflected. “I’m incredibly thankful for all of them.”
The playoff win over Hilliard Bradley in his final home game holds special significance for DiBlasio, as it marked two major accomplishments in one victory.
“To beat them for the second time in my last home game at Davidson was very special,” DiBlasio said. “It also sent us to the Regional Semifinals for the first time in six years, which was pretty meaningful.”

Johnny DiBlasio has his sights set on a future in coaching after his college football career. His drive for both program success and personal growth will undoubtedly guide him in this next chapter.
“I feel like I’ve left a solid legacy at Davidson, and I hope the biggest impact I’ve made is that our program continues to have success year in and year out,” DiBlasio said. “I want to be known as not only a good person but also a winner. I’m excited to bring my abilities to Valparaiso and hopefully win a lot of games there.”
