Jerome girls soccer star Blake Sobczak commits to Mississippi State

Dublin — Coming from a soccer family with two parents who played Division I collegiately, Blake Sobczak was introduced to the game from an early age.

“Both of my parents played at Marshall,” Sobczak said. “They got me and my sisters into it. I started playing when I was three, and we’ve always been around it.”

Since then, Sobczak has become a nightmare for opposing defences at Dublin Jerome: the focal point of every defence she faces, an All-American as a sophomore and now a Division I Power Conference commit.

The Jerome girls soccer star announced her commitment to Mississippi State on 17 August. It marks the first step toward a goal Sobczak has had for herself: playing soccer in the South rather than staying home in the Midwest.

For Sobczak, Mississippi State checks more boxes than just geography.

“Mississippi State is a big school in the SEC, and it has such a big atmosphere around its sports,” Sobczak said. “I did a visit and the support they had in Starkville was really awesome.”

Before she heads to the bright lights of the SEC, Sobczak has her sights set on preparing for the challenge that awaits her at Mississippi State.

She also reflected on what the sport has given her and some of her favourite experiences along the way.

“Last year, I got to play with my older and younger sister on the same team,” Sobczak said. “I’ve met some of my best friends on my club and high school team. So, some of my best memories have come from the sport of soccer.”
